Fear of losing the EU GSP system still not over

German Ambassador in Bangladesh Albrecht Conze cautioned Bangladesh Saturday, the fear of the loss of generalised system of preferences (GSP) privilege in the EU countries about has not yet been, because it is not dependent on the decision of a national Government.

He also said Bangladesh had advantages as the U.S. decision to cancel it before serious effect of cancellation of the GSP.

"Europe suspension of GSP privileges makes good for Bangladesh, it would much tangible effect as the American decision have since US decision effect for many things, but not for clothing," said Mr. Conze.

"I can't say that the storm of Bangladesh sky, which could break out would be Europe for decisions the suspension is gone", he added.

Mr. Conze said at the opening session of a panel discussion about "multi consultation on national and international initiatives for safety in the workplace in terms of RMG in Bangladesh". Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (Bakhtiari) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) together the discussion in the BRAC Centre Inn in the city.

Bakhtiari Vice-President Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan chaired of the session although labor Minister Mikhail Shipar, General Secretary of the Bakhtiari Nazrul Islam Khan and Fez Resident Representative Henrik may hack, and others present.

The Ambassador mentioned six challenges, which has face in terms of the RMG industry and its future for Bangladesh.

The first is the need for coordination among the various international initiatives, only by specialists and not general people can be traced.

"The Fund is not a problem. The issue implementation which can only be guaranteed if all these initiatives will have coordination, "said Mr. Conze.

BILS Assistant Executive Director Sultanuddin Ahmed gave a power point presentation on "security in the RMG industry-recent experience, national and international initiatives: an overview".
