Authorities need to more proactive plans ensure long-term food security in the country as the United Nations food and agriculture agencies have predicted that high food prices, said worldwide over the next decade experts on Friday.
"High food prices are likely to continue and may increase in the next ten years and the entire international community must act now and act forcefully food insecurity from the planet, banish," said a UN report released on Monday.
The report jointly demanded also measures to ensure long-term food security in poverty-stricken countries by the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Fund for agricultural development (FAD) and the food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
The report titled "The State of food insecurity in the world 2011," prepared by the three Rome work-based UN agencies to fight against hunger, found that small and import-dependent countries, particularly in Africa, were particularly vulnerable to poverty and food insecurity.
Experts think that if the report vulnerable to Bangladesh not particularly mentioned misfortune, it should take also proactive plans for food security.
In the case of natural disasters such as floods and cyclone the country can feed crop loss, to harden, what specifically bad part of the population to the face.
Although Bangladesh otherwise produces enough rice, even food security an elusive goal, a recent report said the United States Agency for international development (USAID).
Due to the lack of food security alarming 43 percent of children suffer from a mortality rates, mostly poor country's 160 million people, malnutrition, said the aid organization.
The WFP has also in Dhaka last month, that about 30% of the people of Bangladesh extremely poor and lack financial capacity, food to buy.
Food production last season harvest reached about 35 million tons, including about 1.0 million tonnes, wheat, against 34 million tonnes in the previous period, food Ministry officials said.
We need to further research to grow more food under unfavourable climatic conditions such as drought, flooding, salinity, etc, and boom and loss of land for building infrastructure, as well as by river erosion, "said other problems of the population Azizul Islam, a former adviser of the last transitional Government the VU from Mirza."
The former adviser also recommended to develop ways and means to help the farmers to increase their economic base, so could this State subsidy reduce gradually for food production.
"I can't say how long it will extend generosity of the Government subsidy, is possible", said Mr. Azizul Islam, also a leading economist in the country.
Bangladesh granted subsidies that makes farmers of fertilizers, and other logistical support at prices which are lower than the actual costs, boost food production to help.
The major problems of agriculture in Bangladesh, are a rising prices of agricultural means of production and shrinkage of arable land for settlement as part of the population boom experts said.
This year's UN global hunger report focuses on high and volatile food prices, important factors, to global food insecurity.
Noted in the next ten years, increase food price volatility is due to increasing demand from consumers in fast-growing economies, a population, which is biofuels, which will place additional demands on food system, as well as more frequent extreme weather events further growth on the rise.
In this regard food said a third of the population of the country in financial need experts in Bangladesh and can not afford food even at its current level to buy by price,.
"Bangladesh must grow more food against the projected price hike." If food prices rise further, Bengali will suffer more, "the FE said Emamul Haque, a senior official of WFP, Bangladesh chapter."
The UN report says frequent crises, including the current in the Horn of Africa, the difficult efforts for the UN agencies are Millennium to achieve development goals (MDGs) to reduce the proportion of people who suffer hunger by half in 2015.
"Also, if the Millennium development goals suffer, to be achieved by 2015, about 600 million people in developing countries are still malnourished would hunger on a daily basis.," according to the report.
Among its recommendations the report calls for Governments to ensure that a transparent and predictable regulatory environment in place, encourages private investment and increase agricultural productivity.
"We need to reduce food waste in developed countries through education and other policy and food losses in developing countries by increasing the investment in the entire value chain to reduce, in particular harvesting processing," the report indicated.
It called for more sustainable management of natural resources, forestry and fisheries, which are important for food security of many of the poorest members of society.
Now stronger economies and food prices available incentives for increased long-term investment in agriculture, which can help improved food security in the long run, the report added.
"If farmers at higher prices with increased production responding to can it is important to build on their short-term reaction with higher investment in the agriculture the small-scale farmers who are the main food producers in many parts of the third world, focusing on initiatives that support", said the agencies in a joint statement.
The report underlines the need for more investment in agriculture, is the same as critical for sustainable, long-term food security when developed for the management of resources, to low-cost irrigation, land management practices and better seeds improved through agricultural research.
Was an estimated 925 million hungry people in the world in 2010, compared with 850 million in the period from 2006 to 2008, according to the FAO. No estimates were for 2011 promoted, because the Agency are currently revising the methodology is that it used to calculate the prevalence of hunger.
